To develop and lead Transnet’s Climate Change strategy including the implications of Transition and Physical risks . To engage the external stakeholders on climate change policy and climate finance.

Transnet Snr Specialist Climate Change job requirements are following:-

Qualifications & Experience:
BSC/ Engineering Degree, degree in Commerce, Business Management, Finance or Economics is required.
Post graduate degree or MBA would be an added advantage.
Minimum of 12 years’ experience in planning, strategic planning and related communications experience and 5 years’ at
executive level.
Marketing and General management background and strong analytical capabilities is a must.
Knowledge of the political, economic, business and regulatory environment in Southern Africa.
Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.

Snr Specialist Climate Change Job Responsibility for Transnet Job Vacancy

Position outputs:
1. Enhance and manage the implementation of the Transnet climate change strategy.
2. Assess and quantify the company’s risk appetite in respect of climate change and related policies that impact on the
business, operations and infrastructure investment in relation to transition and physical risks and opportunities.
3. Enhance and maintain the Greenhouse Gas inventory.
4. Define and drive a Just Transition plan for Transnet and ensure adequate management measures to addressing
transition risks facing the business along the pathway to a Net Zero future.
5. Drive the Transnet Net Zero journey supported by relevant transition models, industry collaborations, and pre-emptive
shifts in policy landscape in response to the broader national Just Transition agenda.
6. Analyse and track Transnet’s carbon footprint and energy consumption patterns; identification of opportunities for
carbon emissions reduction, energy saving, renewable energy, research & development, accessing of incentive schemes
and climate finance.
7. In close collaboration with the Operating Divisions, ensure the development and tracking of measurable carbon
reduction initiatives.
8. Develop climate change mitigation measures, in both carbon reduction and off-sets where viable.
9. Identification of research and development opportunities for technology innovation with respect to the Net Zero pathway
and immediate carbon emissions reduction opportunities.
10. Recommend appropriate utilisation of company resources to achieve carbon reduction targets.
11. Develop climate change adaption strategies for Transnet to improve resilience of operations and infrastructure.
12. Support and direct risk and vulnerability assessments on key strategic infrastructure exposed to physical risks from
climate change.
13. Track industry leading best practices in climate change strategy; analyse and understand trends for applicability to
Transnet.
14. Internal and external networking with key stakeholders to make a constructive contribution to South Africa’s climate
change response
15. Stay informed on the development of carbon markets.
16. Engage with government and industry on climate change policy.
17. Quantification of Transnet’s carbon tax risk and measures to minimise this exposure.
18. Report on the quantitative and qualitative impacts of the company’s climate change initiatives in the Annual Reports.
19. Create continuous education opportunities for Transnet employees regarding climate change to ensure that the
company stays abreast of best practice and responds timeously to opportunities.
20. Manage engagements with Policy makers, Institutional Funders on climate funding, NGOs, Business Institutions and
educational institutions to build capacity in the company in respect of climate change.
21. Ensure that climate change response initiatives impact positively on Transnet’s business, operational efficiency,
investment decisions and reputation.
